A delicatessen is a commercial establishment that serves
specially prepared food. The name also refers to a retail store that sells a
selection of local and foreign foods. A deli is sometimes a combination of
restaurant and a grocery store.
It became popular in America mid 1800s in New York.
Delicatessen are found in Australia, Germany, Canada and United States of
America. In Europe they are regarded as gourmet food stores.
They usually have a huge selection of salads, eggplant
dishes, potato meals, pasta, shrimp and chicken. The business is very lucrative
with serious competition. An investor needs adequate capital, good location and
qualified workers.
